Calico, Orville — Once a Tree Crafts

Berea, KY

Orville Calico was born and raised in Berea, KY. He worked in the electrical industry in Lexington for Square D and Brock McVey for several years before his self-taught woodworking hobby turned into a full time career.

In 1982 Orville began working for Berea College in the Wood Craft Program. For the next 25 years he was the main builder in the wood shop at the College and oversaw up to 17 students each semester in the college’s wood craft program. Retiring from the college in 2008, Orville started his own business, Once a Tree Crafts, producing a variety of smaller wooden items such as cutting boards, trivets, ornaments and jewelry boxes.
