Monica says that as an artist she is a formalist. She feels her chemistry background invites her to experiment with paint, while her biology background stimulates her to work with form. She enjoys working with line, color, and geometrical relationships. She also enjoys added texture, which she does by adding materials like sand, or using special tools she creates.
She says she is not interested in creating a photograph. Her horses are “hybrid” or those “found in dream and visions.” She has recently been exploring “horse perspective” and the relationship between horse and rider. Monica Pipia says that for her, the horse has been a great teacher.
Monica describes viewing a painting as a process” “If viewers are willing to explore it, a painting will tell them its secrets. Ultimately viewers can find themselves in the work.”
Monica’s work can be found at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
