Skidmore, Leah — Leah Skidmore Jewelry
leather & gemstone jewelry
Leah Skidmore was born in Stockton, CA, and grew up in Salt Lake City, UT. She studied biology at the University of Utah. Leah has lived in Louisville, KY, since 1997 and works full time as a jewelry artist.
Leah loves designing and weaving interesting gemstone combinations onto long cords of hand cut leather to create rap bracelets that can circle the wrist as many as five times. She takes her simple handmade loom into her yard where she can breathe outside air and listen to birds as she works.
Natural beauty has always inspired Leah and she often pulls new color combinations from what she sees outside. In addition to working with color, she loves to play with texture and contrast. She keeps an inventory of a wide array of gemstone and metal beads to design with.
Each of Leah’s gemstone wrap bracelets features a unique button as its closure. Leah is a metal smith and makes silver buttons for many of her pieces. She also uses buttons made by other Kentucky Artists.
Leah’s work can be found at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
