Rafferty, Barbara (Bobbie) — Beadsong Jewelry

Louisville, KY

beaded jewelry

Bobbie Rafferty creates jewelry using centuries-old beadweaving techniques in which thousands of tiny glass seed beads are individually woven together to create intricate textures and patterns. She incorporates semi-precious gemstones, contemporary and vintage art glass, metal, fiber, and natural materials to create jewelry with a modern sensibility.

Each piece is one-of-a-kind, and Bobbie explains that her work is often “designed spontaneously, growing organically from the interrelationships of the materials being used.”

The name if her business, Beadsong Jewelry, references the fact that Bobbie’s family includes three generations of professional musicians. She comments, “I am surrounded and inspired by music in my life. My beads are my instruments of creativity and expression.”

Primarily self-taught, Bobbie is a juried member of the Kentucky Guild of Artists & Craftsmen and well as the Louisville Artisans Guild.

Works by Bobbie Rafferty can be seen at the Kentucky Museum of Art & Craft, at the J.B. Speed Art Museum Shop, at South Bayle Boutique, all in Louisville, KY; at Artique, Lexington, KY; and at the  Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
