Since the 1990’s Sara Havens has created hats for both professional theatre companies and fashion. In college she studied theatre and specialized in costume design. As an intern she learned millinery at professional opera companies like the Santa Fe Opera, where she worked under Sharon Stone, one of the milliners for “The Titanic.”
Sarah freelanced for theaters and worked as a full time craft artisan at the Cincinnati Play House in the Park. She worked summer stock theater as well, enjoying opportunities to work with Tony Award Winner Catherine Zuber and to work on such theater as the MET’s production of “The Barber of Seville.”
In 2012 Sarah moved from Newport, Rhode Island, to Louisville, KY to re-establish her hat business in Kentucky. Sarah Havens likes to make hats for men and women that fit not only the size and shape of people’s heads but their lifestyles as well. She comments, “Your first impression is always important. Why not make it a lasting one by wearing the perfect hat!”
Sarah Havens’ work can be found at The Gift Horse, Madisonville, KY; Craft(s) Gallery, Louisville, KY; Pink Door Boutique, Louisville, KY and the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea in Berea, KY.
