Pat Sturtzel’s experience as an artist began with quiltmaking in the late 1970s. She has facilitated numerous family and group quilt projects and exhibited award winning quilts. Pat is an art therapist after training at the University of Louisville where she received her Master’s degree in 2002.
Pat has since facilitated art activities and projects, working with participants of all ages and background. She works to balance the teaching of skills while encouraging creativity at a level appropriate to the participants.
In her own work, Pat uses a multi-step process to create pattern, texture, and depth in her silk scarves. She uses the resist techniques of folding, clamping, and soy wax batik, sometimes also adding screen printed details. Pat uses soy wax batik to add patterning to her baby and children’s clothing.
