Smith, Lionell T. — Dragon Hill Handcrafted Gifts

Louisville, KY

polymer clay jewelry
A native of Woodford County, Lionel T. Smith lives and works in Louisville as a veterinarian. She graduated from the University of Kentucky and in 2003 received her degree in veterinary science from Auburn University’s School of Veterinary Medicine.

Smith has also pursued her love of the arts and her interest in jewelry. In 2009 she established Dragon Hill Handcrafted Gifts and began making a line of jewelry. Working in her studio, she creates a line of jewelry created from hand-painted, low-fired polymer (plastic that resembles clay). This medium allows a broad choice of design, durable color, and for the wearer, feather-light comfort.

Smith is inspired by her love of animals, nature, her Kentucky roots and Irish heritage. Smith creates her jewelry by pushing polymer into molds created from antique buttons. Smith has also created stamps that she presses into the surface to create a variety of patterns and designs.

Works by Lionell T. Smith can be found at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
