A native of Houston, TX, Fred Wiesener studied at the Memphis Academy of Fine Arts and the Atlanta School of Arts.  He has a BA in Arts from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, AR and an MFA in ceramics from Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY.

Fred, whose studio in historic Maysville overlooks the Ohio River, is currently working in clay, cast bronze, fibers, and a combination of these materials.  He explains, “The running theme behind all of my work … is that of using light, space, calligraphic forms, and reversible figure-ground relationships to create tension.  To achieve this, I try to make the space that determines a specific edge against my forms just as important to the viewer as the figures themselves.”

Fred has received purchase awards, display awards, and major recognition from art shows across the country.  His exhibitions include Festival of the Masters in Lake Buena Vista, FL, Mid-South Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture, and Grovewood Gallery in Asheville, NC.

His work is included in numerous private and corporate collections in North and South America, Europe, Saudi Arabia, and Japan.

Fred’s work can be found at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft in Louisville; and at the Kentucky Artisan Center in Berea, KY
