Logo Unveiled March 1, 2002

On Friday, March 1, at 2:30 pm the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea board members unveiled the official logo newly developed for the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea during Kentucky Crafted: The Market, at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center, South Wing A, Louisville, KY.

Victoria Faoro, the Center's Executive Director, opened the ceremony by communicating Secretary Ann Latta's greetings and regrets that she was not able to attend. Victoria provided a brief overview of the Center's mission, building, and programming.

Ken Gastineau - a Berea artist and business owner who chairs the Center's Artisan Advisory Committee told how the idea for the center developed as a way to bring more people to Berea and provide a place for artisans to offer quality products year round. He spoke of the Center's goals for helping artisans make a good living from their work, enabling them to educate the public about making crafts.

Lou DeLuca, Deputy Secretary, Education, Arts & Humanities Cabinet, who has been involved with the project from the time it was brought to Dr. Roy Peterson, spoke of the Education, Arts and Humanities Cabinet's work with Berea, CEDET, craft artisans, and the college to develop the project, helping make it into a statewide project with a tourism focus.

Dr. Marlene Helm, Secretary of the Education, Arts & Humanities Cabinet, spoke of ways the Center is partnering with the Craft Marketing Program and the Kentucky Arts Council to expand opportunities for artisans.

On behalf of Secretary Ann R. Latta, Secretary of the Tourism Development Cabinet, Victoria spoke of the Center's role as a gateway for cultural heritage tourism, encouraging visitors to visit Berea, the "Folk Arts and Craft Capital of Kentucky," as well as attractions and trails around the state.

All Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea authority board members present joined the speakers to unveil the logo, which is based on the shape of the Center's entry pavilion, and was designed to suggest the exciting artisan activity in the center and throughout the state. Dr. Clifford Kerby, mayor or Berea, spoke of his excitement about the Center, and staff and board present remained present to answer questions about the logo and the Center.
