Cynthia Carr, Harrodsburg, KY

Crosswinds Pottery

Pottery

Cynthia Carr holds a B.F.A. from the Cleveland Institute of Art, an M.F.A. from Tulane University, and has also studied two semesters at Pewabic Pottery in Detroit. During the 1980’s Cynthia settled in Kentucky, where she purchased a small farm, restored the farmhouse, and created Crosswinds Pottery.

At Crosswinds Pottery Cynthia produces functional wheel thrown stoneware designed to be visually appealing and useful in the kitchen and home. She uses reduction glazes to enhance the forms, and fires them in a large propane kiln that she built herself. Her pottery is dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe.

A new line of work by Cynthia includes essentials for the home and garden made by combining rustic found metal objects with clay forms

Cynthia’s work can be found at the Appalachian Fireside Gallery, Berea, KY; many Kentucky State Park gift shops, and Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
