Cecilia Ridge of Blue Heron Farm Designs remembers painting and drawing whimsical animals as a child. As a biology and art student at the University of Alabama, Cecilia realized that animals drawn on paper could also be transferred to fabrics and clay.
After completing her BS degree, Cecilia taught high school for 10 years and then continued her education at Ball State University, completing a MA and Ed. D in biology and geology. She returned to Louisville in 1980 and to high school teaching.
In 2000 Cecilia launched a textile studio. Living and working in Fisherville, KY, she draws inspiration from the farmland and nearby cityscapes. Cecilia paints on white silk and other fabrics using multiple layers of dye to create patterns that often reflect her love of nature. Finished fabrics are made into scarves and other objects.
Cecilia’s work can be found at Kentucky Museum of Art & Craft, Louisville; Blue Heron Gallery, Louisville; Completely Kentucky, Frankfort; and Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea,kY .
