Sherrie Cocanougher began working with lampworked glass in 2007, following a two-day workshop at Glassworks in Louisville. She has continued to develop her skills through reading, video tutorials and much practice. Working from her home studio, Cocanougher uses mostly soft glass from Moretti and Vetrofond and anneals her glass in a digitally controlled kiln.
Cocanougher has always had a love for craft, jewelry and color. She has formal training in interior design from Eastern Kentucky University. Lampworked glass has been an outlet for expressing her love of these things. She also enjoyed creating hand-made links and findings using fine silver, copper and gold filled wire. She has developed a line of jewelry in which she combines elements of vintage silverware she finds at antique shops and rummage sales with her lampworked beads.
Cocanougher is a juried member of the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen, the Louisville Artist Guild and the Sheltowee Artisan Guild.
Works by Sherrie Cocanougher can be seen at the Frame Cellar, Danville, KY; Completely Kentucky, Frankfort, KY; the Damselfly Gallery, Midway, KY and at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
