turned pens

David Best has been working in the outdoors with plants and horticulture alongside his father, well-know heirloom seed propagator Bill Best outside of Berea, KY for many years.

Best is an outdoorsman with an avid interest in both hardwoods and history. He has combined these two interests by using a wood lathe to turn selected wood into ink pens. Best seeks out damaged wood from some of his favorite locales as well as from specific historical sites around Kentucky. He utilizes the scrap wood in the making of his pens - thus preserving a visual and horticultural part of that special place.

His woods all come from local, central Kentucky trees from such locations as the Battle of Richmond Civil War site, and the Henry Clay Estate in Lexington.
