Warren May’s family migrated up through the Cumberland Gap, not far from Berea, KY, where he lives and works. He is native of Carroll Co., KY.
Being the youngest of ten children, Warren would play around in the wood shop while the older boys went out to do the farm work with his dad. Warren recalls, “My dad could do anything in wood. Both my grandfathers made furniture and my grandmother was part Cherokee and would do straw weaving, one of the old Cherokee Crafts.”
Warren has made a name for himself in wood working circles across America and his fine classical and Kentucky style furniture is sought by collectors. He is also one of the better known mountain dulcimer makers and has made more that 14,000 to date. Warren has been featured in numerous woodworking magazines including Fine Woodworking Magazine and Southern Living.
