Ron Owens is a native of Rockcastle County, KY, and is a self-taught artist who has worked in willow furniture for over 15 years. Folk Art Collector John Irvin discovered Ron’s work and that of his wife Janice Harding Owens in 1989 and encouraged and contributed to their careers.
Ron assembles his furniture in a restored 50 year old barn and collects and harvests willow trees from local areas. He cuts the willow year round in order for it to be fresh. This fresh or limber willow is then cut, bent and assembled into a multitude of functional pieces. Ron’s furniture has durable construction that will last a lifetime indoors. His furniture is designed for uniqueness and comfort.
Ron’s work can be found at the Kentucky Folk Art Center, in Morehead, KY; Kentucky Museum of Arts + Design, Louisville, KY; Brown/Forman Gallery, Louisville, KY; and at the Labrot and Graham Distillery in Woodford County.
