Gary Maiden was born and raised in southeastern Kentucky. After retiring from the coal mines, he was able to pursue his love of woodturning. Maiden works with native hardwoods taken directly from the woods that surround his home in Putney, Ky.
Maiden turns in his workshop that sits near his home in the midst of a pine mountain forest. He has studied woodturning and woodworking at Arrowmont School of Crafts but feels he is mostly self-taught by trial and error. Maiden says that his greatest pleasure comes from taking a piece of wood from the tree and turning it while still green into a work of beauty that emphasizes its natural state.
Gary Maiden is a juried member of the Kentucky Guild of Artists & Craftsmen.
Work by Gary Maiden can be found at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
