Don McClurg was born in Lewis County Kentucky near the confluence of Kinniconick Creek and the Ohio River. A retired FBI special agent, he now resides in Boone County, KY, near Cincinnati, OH.
Don’s father, grandfather and several uncles were all carpenters, which Don feels contributed to his love for wood and woodworking. Over the years Don has been involved in many aspects of woodworking, but finds carving and turning his favorites.
He especially enjoys carving because it’s something he can do no matter where he is since it doesn’t take a lot of wood or equipment. Don loves Christmas and especially enjoys carving Santas. He explains, “When you give me a piece of wood, Santa pops out!”
At one point his wife Jean decided to try her hand at painting his carved pieces. Creating Santas together has become something they enjoy doing together.
Works by Don & Jean McClurg can be found at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
