Dave Kacmarcik grew up in Cleveland but moved to Lexington with his family in the 1970s. Dave has worked with wood nearly all his life, with his father, grandfather and brothers as teachers. In 2005 he was encouraged by his wife to begin selling his work.
Dave started out at a small church craft show and has progressed to participating in major Kentucky festivals and shows. Wooden toys are his favorite products to make. He sands them smooth and then finishes each using non-toxic mineral spirits rather than paint, relying on the variety of woods to provide color contrasts.
Dave is inspired by the joy children show when they play with something he has made. He’s also inspired by the pride he knows that his grandfather would feel about the way Dave uses his woodworking skills.
Dave Kacmarcik’s work can an be found at various Kentucky festivals and at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
