Sharon Lombardo was born in South-central Illinois and earned her B.A. from the University of Illinois before moving to Chicago where she raised her family. Her background includes special ties with the island of Maui where her parents lived, and you can detect a love of tropical island life in the soaps she develops.
Lombardo began her career in Kentucky making herbal olive oil soaps in Owen County. Her interest in all-natural products was a primary motivator in her choice of ingredients, which range from food-grade oils to plant material essential oils, mango and shea butters, berry seed oils, and other soothing and nourishing ingredients. Her “farmer’s market series” includes locally grown organic vegetables.
Lombardo chose to name her company after her paternal grandmother, Anna, whose quiet, gentle approach to life was an early inspiration. She has also chosen to keep her company small, making all her soap in a soap studio in downtown Owenton, KY. She feels many people are seeking a more healthful approach to life, and her goal is for Anna’s EsSCENTials bodycare to be a part of this movement. .
Lombardo’s work can be found at Completely Kentucky, Frankfort; the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea; and other shops.
