Born and raised in Daviess County, KY, Lucy Felty remembers well the homemade lye soap that was always at her grandmother’s sinks. The odd shaped chunk of soap with the unusual smell fascinated her. Though she lived nearby, Lucy never saw her grandmother making the soap—as it was not considered a safe activity for children.
In 2003, when a friend asked Lucy to help her make soap, she studied some books on soap making and began experimenting. Using natural vegetables and nut oils she then began adding natural essential oils and botanicals for interest and color. After a few batches, Lucy was hooked and she hasn’t purchased commercial soap since!
Lucy then began to research and make lotion and other body care products. With her background as a nurse, she wanted to make products that were healthy and good for the skin. After much study and many tests, she has formulated her own recipes to create nourishing, moisturizing and luxurious products.
Lucy is a juried member of the Kentucky Art Council’s Kentucky Crafted Program and in 2010 earned her Advanced Soap maker Certification from the Handcrafted Soap Makers Guild.
