Theresa Shelton grew up on a small farm in Hardin County, KY and many of her subjects reflect a passion for this rural life. Theresa was encouraged by her mother to develop her drawing and other creative skills. Later she studied with artists to expand her techniques.
Since purchasing the Haynes Greenhouse in Vine Grove, KY, in 1978, Theresa and her husband have enjoyed working there together. The greenhouse has provided Theresa with much subject matter for her paintings.
Theresa especially enjoys working in oil and pastel, and regularly paints “en plein aire” (on location.) She enjoys creating impressionistic realism in her florals, still life’s and landscapes. Despite being color blind, her interpretations have a depth and perspective that belies this condition. She states, “I feel it gives me a unique advantage for it allows me to create color in places where my eyes pick up mostly shades of gray and brown.”
Theresa is a juried member of the Kentucky Craft Marketing program, Oil Painters of America, and the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen.
Theresa’s work can also be found at Art Attic at Haynes Greenhouse, Vine Grove; Chestnut Tree Gallery, Richmond, KY; and at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
