A Kentucky native, Stephen Sawyer paints in a downtown Versailles, KY, studio located in a 150 year old historic building. Stephen is known for his oil portraits, but says his art ranges from the sublime to the silly.
Most recently Stephen has focused on whimsical bear paintings. His bear paintings are comic relief inspired by his memory of running at top speed from a bear cub while visiting his grandmother in Gatlinburg as a seven year old.
Stephen has over 40 beehives, and one of his bear paintings has become the label for organic raw honey produced on his farm in Woodford County. When not painting in his studio, Stephen can be found on his farm among the bees helping to insure their survival.
Stephen Sawyer’s work can be found at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
