Susan A. Vanstone is a practicing dentist in Richmond, KY. After years of working with science, she began making jewelry by stringing beads. She liked the results, but didn’t feel inspired.
Then, after seeing necklace shown on a supplier’s website, she made a necklace herself using gears and fell in love with Steampunk. Susan Vanstone explains this style: “Steampunk brings together the delicate beauty of the Victorian age with the strength of Industrial times.” She adds, “This unlikely combination creates beauty and uniqueness like no other.”
Susan utilizes gears, watch parts, bolts, nuts and springs, along with old articles of jewelry to create her Steampunk jewelry. She adds that she is now evolving, adding wire wrapping and coiling for accents.
Susan’s work can be found at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
