In her jewelry, Rachel Savané strives to meld metal and stone in elegant, organic designs using basic fabrication techniques. Using silver sheet and wire she builds a piece designed around a unique stone. Rachel regularly works with Kentucky Agates.
Savane Silver was founded in 1996, and Rachel found her BFA in Crafts/Metals from the University of Illinois provided a foundation of skills and design. Her year as a student in Denmark, and the three years she spent in the Peace Corps in Guinea, West Africa, has afforded her a global design perspective. It was in West Africa that she met her husband.
In 2003, Rachel opened a gallery/studio in downtown Lexington, Ky., where she lives. In this new location she has an assistant that helps her with the finishing / polishing work, and she is able to work regularly with customers to build national and international sales of her work. She states, “My work is abstract and asymmetrical and my desire is to be a maker of beautiful, functional and wearable streamlined designs.”
Rachel’s jewelry can be found at the Savane Silver, Lexington, KY; and at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
