From a very early age, Michael Hudson had the urge to create. He was introduced to hot glass in 1999 while attending Southern Illinois University – Carbondale and fell in love with the medium. In 2003 he received a BFA in Art & Design with a specialization in glass and returned to Louisville, where art glass activity was developing rapidly. For five years he worked in various studios and helped with the start of the University of Louisville’s glass program.
In 2007 Michael founded Hudson Glass, where he strives to bring nature and design elements together in creating one of a kind glass objects. For several years he produced glass by renting time in other studios, but realized he needed his own studio. When he discovered a previous employer wanted to retire, he purchased her glass business, Berni Enterprises, in 2014.
Michael has worked to improve existing designs, grow his own body of work, and merge the two into a cohesive line of unique hand-made glass items. Everything is designed, produced by hand, and finished by artisans working in a studio south of Louisville, KY.
Hudson Glass can be found at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
