Traci Cassilly grew up in Louisville, KY. She attended the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville and received a BFA from the Allen Hite Art School, with a fiber art concentration.
Traci has been a knitter since an early age, but in 2004 she discovered that through felting her knitting took on a whole new form. With felting, knitted wool is wet with water, agitated, and/or compressed, which locks fibers together. Traci continues to be fascinated by the durability and flexibility of felted wool.
Traci hand makes all of her hats and bags. She designs each piece and then hand knits, felts, and shapes it. Traci enjoys the endless array of colors and textures that she can incorporate in her designs. Once she had mastered the techniques, she was able to focus on design.
Traci has recently become interested in the idea of re-using previously discarded materials and enjoys creating utilitarian works that are also beautiful.
Traci Cassilly’s work can be found at the Kentucky Artisan Center in Berea, KY.
