Mark and Kathy Koenig have raised a herd of approximately 100 Angora Goats on their family farm in Springfield, KY. Starting with a “herd” of two goats, the Koenigs selectively bred to improve the fineness and curliness of the mohair. All of the mohair is used to produce their luxurious line of mohair yarns.
Angora Goats have shared their mohair with the Koenigs twice a year. First they shear the mohair and gently wash it. Then, the fiber is processed into yarn in their spinning mill located on the farm. After the yarn is spun, it is either kept natural or it is hand painted into a wide spectrum of luscious colors for customers’ knitting pleasure.
Koenig yarns can also be found at Koenig Farm, Spinnery & Yarnshop, Springfield, KY; Log House Gallery, Berea, KY; Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, Harrodsburg, KY; and the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
