Living in the Appalachian region of Kentucky, Judy and Gordon Geagley have been designing Teddy bears since 1987. Inspiration comes from family, friends, and the roots of their heritage.
The Geagleys’ Teddy Bear Workshop is in the basement of their home, where many piles of fabric and teddy bear parts await becoming “real.” Judy and Gordon love bringing these little bears to life.
Judy started bear making to earn extra money and be able to stay at home with their three children. To her surprise, it has transformed into a full time job. Making Teddy bears from the recycled fabric of old garments has become a real selling point for their creations. It also carries on the tradition of not throwing away anything that can still be used, which Judy learned from her Grandmother Bessie.
Judy’s Teddy bears have been given as gifts by such celebrities as Danielle Steel and are sold in stores throughout the United States.
Judy’s work can be found at these other Kentucky locations: Artique, Lexington; Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, Harrodsburg; Complete Kentucky, Frankfort, KY; and Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
