Dawn was born and raised in Kentucky and currently resides in Berea.
Inspired by nature, and fascinated by machines, Dawn’s sculptures are often a unique and creative blend of both. She loves “tinker parts” -- gears, cogs, bits of shiny metal -- yet at the same time she marvels at the natural world that surrounds us. She tries to share that joy in her art. Her signature “Clockworks Collection” features animals sculpted to look like machines, a steam punk genre. Meanwhile, the “Animalia” series includes miniature animal studies, painted in both natural and invented color schemes.
Each Purplecat Creative sculpture is meticulously sculpted and detailed in clay, and then reproduced as art grade gypsum casting. Each casting is then cleaned, airbrushed and hand painted.
Dawn Maddox’s work can be found at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea KY.
