A native of Daytona, OH, Melisa Zimmerman holds a BFA from Kent State. She has worked as a production potter at Red Drum Pottery in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and completed two ceramic residencies. She moved to Kentucky in 2010 to work as a studio technician at Eastern Kentucky University.
She now creates a line of decorative pottery in her Lexington, KY studio. She carves designs in the clay surfaces and adds color with underglazes. To create fine lines and areas of color she often uses an eyedropper. A final glaze is then applied to each piece, over the colorful decorations, to seal the surface.
Her inspiration comes from everything from graffiti to nature.
Melisa Zimmerman’s work can be found at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
