The Jesse Stuart Foundation is devoted to preserving the human and literary legacy of native Kentucky writer Jesse Stuart as well as other Kentucky and Appalachian writers. The Foundation controls the rights to Stuart’s published and unpublished literary works and has reprinted many of Stuart’s out-of-print books, becoming a significant regional press and bookseller.
The primary purpose of the Jesse Stuart Foundation is to produce books which supplement the educational system at all levels and to make them accessible to teachers and librarians, as well as general readers. The Foundation supports Stuart’s belief that children require more than literacy – but need to learn from reading, the unalterable principles of right and wrong.
The Foundation promotes Stuart’s legacy through videotapes, dramas, readings, presentations for school/civic groups, and sponsors the annual Jesse Stuart Weekend at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park.
Books published by the Jesse Stuart Foundation can be found at fine booksellers throughout Kentucky and at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
