Acclaimed garden designer Jon Carloftis prides himself on his Kentucky roots and believes that the Bluegrass state is home to some of the most enchanting and inspired gardens in the world. In his new book, he has teamed up with photographers and publishers Christopher Hirsheimer and Melissa Hamilton - to create an indelible portrait of twenty-one private and public outdoor spaces in Kentucky. Included are rural, suburban and urban gardens some of which are Carloftis’ own.
Raised in the middle of the Daniel Boone National forest, Carloftis became enamored with this rich landscape at an early age. The natural, native, irregular and textural vistas of his homeland continue to inspire his garden designs. Carloftis divides his time between clients in Kentucky and in the New York area. He has created gardens for such actors as Edward Norton and Julianne Moore and his work has been featured in the magazines Country Gardens, Country Home, Garden Design, and House Beautiful, among others. Carloftis has received the landscape design award from the Museum of the City of New York.
