In 1921, Ruth Thorpe Hunt decided to start a small candy business from her kitchen in Mt. Sterling, KY. When Ruth created a wonderful new candy bar but couldn’t decide on a name, a traveling minister remarked to her that he ‘always needed a little sweet to cure his Blue Monday’ and so the chocolate covered cream candy bar’s name became Blue Monday.
A Kentucky specialty, cream candy is made using pure heavy cream, chilled marble slabs, a pulling hook and a secret recipe!
Ruth Hunt Candies also make the unique Kentucky Bourbon Balls with mint julep and Woodford Reserve Bourbon. Woodford Reserve Bourbon made by the Labrot and Graham distillery was voted “Best Bourbon” at the 2000 and 2001 world spirits competition.
Ruth Hunt Candy can also be found at A Taste of Kentucky, A Taste of Bourbon, and Borders, Louisville, KY; Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, Harrodsburg, KY; Completely Kentucky, Frankfort, KY; Woodford Reserve Distillery Gift Shop, Versailles, KY; the Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, KY; and the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, in Berea, KY.
